Literature Text

I sit in the shadows
Hiding from your face
Maybe with luck I will be forgotten
In this unknown place

My eyes see through the darkness
Spying you as you walk on by
The giant that reigns in arrogance
You taught me the joys of longing to die

In the city square
You call out my name
Shed tears of fools gold
Appealing to my shame

My shell was a slave to my heart
And my heart was a slave to you
You controlled the strings of the puppet
But it was this puppet who gave you the strings

Cries of false promise
Oh the things you pretend to offer
"Thee shall never own a heart broken"
You insult me with your lies

You thought I would serve
A slave to your whim
For eternity
Never yearning for true love

I was never blind to it
Your secret desire
To have me has your pet
It is over, liar

So away from you I run
In the shadows I shall sit
And if you should die without this lifeline
Then so be it...

I was surprised to realise I had actually written this as part of my 100 Theme Challenge. The hero has escaped the enslavement of the evil queen. She enslaved him, keeping him trapped by appealing to his guilt and all-loving heart. But with his eyes opened, he fled the castle. The Queen had made an error - in thinking the hero would stay for guilt alone, she made him her lifeline. Now that he has gone, she will die...and the hero is finally able to live with guilt instead of bearing the pain of staying...

Seriously, this is one my most emotional honest and well thought out poems in my opinion and whilst it's not on my top ten favourites, it definately could find a spot on the top ten best works of mine, even if the stats disagree.

Not bad for a poem that took 5 minutes to write...

It's.... *at a loss for words*

It's good to know that the hero can walk away.

Now if only I had a pinch of his courage.
