Literature Text

The dusk begins to settle
Upon the sea of gold
The auburn glare of the sun
Lighting the course
Of the brave and bold

Tides turns to waves
And winds turn to storms
The trumpets of death
Sound the call to bring the dead
To Poseidon's throne.

Across the vast ocean
A boat sales alone
Carrying men of heart
The loyal crew feel danger
In their tired bones

Dirt on their faces
Rope burns on their hands
They fight the waters
With the hope
They will return to land

Led by their Captain
'Ol' Brave' Chares Robere
Ocean legend
Pirate King
And swashbuckling extraordinaire

He steps out from his cabin
And stands proud upon the deck
His sword by his side
A smile bright and wide
Sailing on the verge of hell and heck

Captain Robere shows no fear
In that most dangerous of places
And his crew follow suit
Lacing up their boots
All putting on brave faces

The sea god grows with rage
And summons all his power
He summons the death
Robere draws a breath
As he faces his final hour

"Man the sails ya dogs
And hold on strong
We shall not surrender
Or flee in terror
We will face death with song!"

"So take off yah hats
And place them on yah hearts
And sing bravely
For yah friends and family
Before ye finally depart!"

And with harmonious hum
The crew sung
Amazing Graces and Hallelujahs
Mermaids woke from their sleep
And the Gods began to weep
For the brave pirate crew

And like the rhyme of poetry
Poseidon changed his heart
The rhythm of his rage faded
He shed a tear
For the men who had no fear
Even in death they were not jaded

So he lowered his hand
And the storm did die
The crew lived on
To sing their song
Poseidon watched as they sail on by

"Oh 'Ol Brave' Charles Robere,
You will be legend of old
For the rest of time
In prose and rhyme
Your story will be forever told."

And so they sailed on
With roars and cheers
They celebrated their lives
Sang songs of their kids and wives
As they flowed with ale and beer

So all ye sailors relax
And be forever strong
For whereever you sail
Without fail
Ol' Brave Charles Robere
Will be singing a special song

"Oh Poseidon the great
God of fate
Protect these men of sea forever more
May they freely roam
Between new lands and home
As you did with me long before."
This poem follows the story of Ol' Brave Captain Charles Robere (which I obviously made up).

I got the inspiration for this poem from a photograph taken by one of the greatest photographers on deviantArt - :iconjusteline:. This is the picture it's based on (with her permission):

Just came across this after seeing the photo.  So easy to see the Captain walking the decks.  A couple of what I consider cliche lines but overall a wonderful tale.  Thank you.
